NASA's plans to return to the moon never materialized, but the ideas and innovations considered for lunar explorations advanced technology. Travel to Hawaii to see tests using a special reactor and a process called hydrogen reduction to release oxygen from the volcanic soil. This process was being tested for possible use on the moon. [Archived 2014 - Not all missions make it from design to launch. These archived videos describe missions that that would have taken humans back to the moon and unmanned aerial vehicles to Mars.
